How insurance works here

Fee-for-service, explained simply

Saratoga Smiles is a fee-for-service practice. That means we are not in-network with any insurance company, and an insurance contract does not decide your treatment plan, your materials, or how long your visit takes.

Not being in-network is different from not accepting insurance. Many plans include out-of-network benefits, and you can still use them here. The difference is who gets paid: you pay the office, and your plan reimburses you based on your out-of-network coverage.

In-network office

  • Has a contract with your insurer
  • Insurer sets the fees and limits
  • Insurer usually pays the office

Saratoga Smiles (out-of-network)

  • No insurer contract
  • Treatment planned by you and Dr. Dennis
  • Your plan reimburses you directly
What to expect

From estimate to reimbursement

  1. Exam and options

Dr. Dennis explains what he sees and your options, including what can safely wait.

  2. Written estimate

You get a written estimate before any treatment begins. It is an estimate, not a guarantee of what your plan will pay.

  3. Pay at your visit

Pay by card, or with HSA or FSA funds. Financing can spread larger treatment over time.

  4. Your claim

You receive an itemized statement with the codes your plan needs, and the out-of-network claim goes to your plan. We walk you through it.

  5. Reimbursement

Your plan sends any reimbursement directly to you, based on your out-of-network benefits.

Questions

Have questions about insurance and payment?

Do you accept my dental insurance?

Saratoga Smiles is a fee-for-service practice, so we are not in-network with any insurance plan. You can still use your out-of-network dental benefits. Your plan decides how much it reimburses, and that amount goes to you.

How does the insurance claim process work?

You pay at the time of service. You then receive an itemized statement with the procedure codes your plan requires, and the out-of-network claim goes to your plan. Our team explains each step and answers claim questions, and your plan sends any reimbursement directly to you.

How much will my plan pay?

It depends on your plan’s out-of-network benefits, deductible, and yearly maximum. We cannot guarantee what an insurer will pay. Call your plan, or ask our team which questions to ask them.

Will I know the cost before treatment starts?

Yes. You receive a written estimate for recommended treatment before any work begins. Estimates are based on your exam, and your plan’s payment is not guaranteed.

What payment methods do you accept?

Major credit and debit cards. Health savings account (HSA) and flexible spending account (FSA) cards are welcome for eligible care.

What financing is available?

We work with Proceed Finance, Cherry, and CareCredit. Each lender sets its own terms and makes its own approval decision. Ask our team how to apply, or apply with Cherry online.

Do you offer a membership plan?

No. We do not offer an in-house membership plan at this time. Patients without insurance pay for care directly, and financing is available for larger treatment.

When is payment due?

Payment is due at the time of service. For larger treatment, we talk through timing and financing with you before anything is scheduled.

From our patients

No pressure. Just options.

“I was told in Napa, Ca that I needed a new crown over a root canal crown. That was wrong. Doc said it is not needed and we will just monitor it.”

★★★★★ Deborah G., Google review

“The entire appointment was neither rushed nor did it feel like I was just another customer. Dr Dennis was just as kind and professional, he made his assessment and offered me choices.”
