Stop the Pain. Save the Tooth. No Referrals Needed.
If you are reading this page, you are likely in pain. Whether it is a dull ache, extreme sensitivity to hot and cold, or sharp pain when biting down, your tooth is telling you that something is wrong.
At Saratoga Smiles, we know that when you are hurting, the last thing you want is a referral slip. You want relief.
Dr. Gorman is one of the few general dentists in Saratoga Springs who performs comprehensive root canal therapy—including complex molar root canals—right here in our office. We combine advanced technology with sedation options to get you out of pain immediately, without the wait time of seeing an outside specialist.
request an appointmentThe “In-House” Advantage: Why We Don’t Refer You Out
In Saratoga Springs, it is common for general dentists to refer out root canals—especially on back teeth (molars)—to endodontists. This often leaves patients managing their pain while waiting days or weeks for a consultation at a different office with a doctor they have never met.
At Saratoga Smiles, we handle your care from start to finish.
Why Do Other Offices Refer Molar Root Canals?
The answer is often time and insurance. Molar root canals are complex; these teeth have multiple canals that are curved and difficult to navigate.
- The Volume Trap: In high-volume, insurance-driven practices, doctors are often double-booked. They simply do not have the 90 minutes of dedicated, uninterrupted time required to properly disinfect and seal a molar.
- The Result: It is easier for them to hand you a referral slip than to clear their schedule to treat you.
Why Dr. Gorman Does Them Here
Because we are a Fee-for-Service practice, our business model is different. We don’t book based on volume; we book based on care.
- Unrushed Precision: Dr. Gorman has the time to perform these intricate procedures with the focus they require.
- Advanced Training: Dr. Gorman has invested heavily in the training and technology necessary to navigate complex root anatomy successfully.
- One Doctor, One Bill: You stay in your dental home, with the team you trust.
What a Root Canal Actually Treats
There is a misconception that a root canal causes pain. In reality, the root canal is the cure for the pain.
Inside every tooth is a chamber of nerves and blood vessels called the “pulp.” When a tooth cracks or has a deep cavity, bacteria enter this chamber, causing infection. Since the infection has nowhere to go, it builds pressure, hitting the nerve and causing severe pain.
The Procedure:
- We numb the area completely.
- We remove the infected nerve tissue (the source of the pain).
- We clean and disinfect the inside of the tooth.
- We seal it to prevent future infection.
Once the infected tissue is gone, the pain is gone. It’s that simple.
Sedation: Sleep Through Your Root Canal
We understand that the phrase “root canal” triggers anxiety for many. But at Saratoga Smiles, a root canal is often as boring as a nap.
Because we are a sedation-certified office, you have options beyond just local numbing:
- Nitrous Oxide: To help you relax.
- Oral Conscious Sedation: You take a pill before your appointment. You will feel drowsy and disconnected from the procedure.
- IV Sedation: For the deepest relaxation. Most patients wake up with no memory of the procedure at all.
You don’t have to “tough it out.” We can ensure you feel absolutely nothing while we save your tooth.
