Wake Up with a New Smile.
For millions of Americans, the fear of the dentist is stronger than the desire for a healthy smile. At Saratoga Smiles, we understand that dental anxiety is not a choice—it is a physiological reaction.
We believe you shouldn’t have to “white knuckle” your way through an appointment.
We are one of the few practices in the Saratoga Springs area where both doctors are certified to administer IV sedation. This level of credentialing allows us to offer a different kind of dentistry: one where you can sleep through your procedure and wake up with your treatment complete.

Sedation dentistry requires rigorous training, strict protocols, and state certification. While many dentists offer mild forms of sedation (like “laughing gas”), very few undergo the extensive residency-type training required to safely administer Intravenous (IV) Sedation.
Dr. Gorman and Dr. Dennis have both achieved this distinction.
- Advanced Training: Both doctors have completed specialized training in airway management, physiology, and emergency protocols.
- Constant Monitoring: When you are sedated, you are never alone. We utilize hospital-grade monitoring equipment to track your heart rate, oxygen levels, and blood pressure throughout every second of the procedure.
- New York State Certified: Our office meets and exceeds all safety standards set by the New York State Dental Board for parenteral sedation.
The Power of Sedation + Comprehensive Dentistry
The true value of sedation at Saratoga Smiles is that it allows us to maximize your time.
In a traditional office, if you need a root canal, a crown, and two fillings, you might be dragged back for three or four separate 45-minute appointments.
With sedation, we can do it all at once.
Because you are completely relaxed and time seems to pass instantly for you, our doctors can work efficiently for longer blocks of time. This allows us to combine General, Restorative, and Cosmetic procedures into a single visit.
The “One-Visit” Advantage:
- One recovery period.
- One interruption to your work schedule.
- Zero anxiety.
Is Sedation Right for You?
We utilize sedation for a wide range of patients and procedures. It isn’t just for surgery; it is for anyone who wants a better experience.
We Recommend Sedation For:
- High Anxiety & Phobia: If you have trouble sleeping the night before a dental visit, sedation is the answer.
- Strong Gag Reflex: Sedation eliminates the gag reflex, allowing us to take X-rays and impressions without struggle.
- Resistance to Numbing: Some patients have difficulty getting numb with local anesthesia alone. Sedation helps relax the body, making local anesthetic more effective.
- Complex Procedures:
- Root Canal Therapy: Sleep through the procedure and wake up pain-free.
- Multiple Crowns & Bridges: Fix your entire bite in one sitting.
- Extractions & Implants: Undergo surgery without the memory of the sounds or pressure.
- Deep Cleanings: For patients with sensitive gums, we can perform periodontal therapy under sedation.
Your Sedation Options
We offer a tiered approach to comfort, allowing you to choose the level of sedation that fits your needs.
- Nitrous Oxide (“Laughing Gas”)
- Level: Mild.
- Effect: You feel light, tingly, and indifferent to the procedure.
- Recovery: Immediate. You can drive yourself home.
- Oral Conscious Sedation
- Level: Moderate.
- Effect: You take a prescribed pill before your appointment. You will feel very drowsy and relaxed. Most patients have little memory of the visit.
- Recovery: You will need a driver to take you home.
- IV Sedation (Deep Conscious Sedation)
- Level: Deep.
- Effect: The medication is administered intravenously for immediate and adjustable effect. You drift into a deep state of relaxation. While you are technically conscious for safety, you are completely unaware of the procedure and will likely remember nothing.
- Recovery: You will need a driver to take you home and should rest for the remainder of the day.
