Safe, Gentle Removal. A Plan for Replacement.
At Saratoga Smiles, our primary goal is always to save your natural teeth. However, there are times when removing a tooth is the healthiest choice for your mouth and your body.
Whether you are suffering from a severe fracture, advanced decay, or impacted wisdom teeth, the thought of an extraction can be scary. Dr. Gorman removes the fear from the equation.
By combining advanced surgical techniques with our comprehensive sedation protocols, we perform both routine and complex surgical extractions right here in our Saratoga Springs office. There is no need to travel to an unfamiliar oral surgeon’s office to get the care you need.

Many general dental offices will only perform “simple” extractions (where the tooth is already loose). If a tooth is broken at the gumline or requires surgical removal, they often refer the patient out.
Dr. Gorman does not shy away from complex cases. We are equipped to handle the full spectrum of extractions:
- Routine Extractions: Efficient removal of teeth that are visible above the gum line.
- Surgical Extractions: Careful removal of teeth that have broken off or have not fully erupted.
- Emergency Extractions: Fast relief for infected or painful teeth that cannot be saved.
Wisdom Teeth (Third Molars)
Wisdom teeth are the most common surgical extraction, yet many adults still put off the procedure due to anxiety. Whether you are a young adult with developing molars or an older adult experiencing sudden trouble with them, Dr. Gorman provides expert removal.
We routinely handle wisdom teeth that are:
- Impacted: Stuck beneath the gum or bone.
- Crowding: Pushing against healthy molars and ruining orthodontic work.
- Infected: Causing pain, swelling, or cysts in the jaw.
Because we offer IV sedation, you can have your wisdom teeth removed comfortably, waking up after the procedure is complete with no memory of the surgery.
Sedation: The “Easy Button” for Surgery
The sound and pressure associated with extractions are the number one source of dental phobia. At Saratoga Smiles, we believe you shouldn’t have to experience either.
We offer a tiered approach to comfort:
- Nitrous Oxide: For simple extractions where you just need to relax.
- Oral Conscious Sedation: A pill that places you in a “twilight” state.
- IV Sedation: Ideally suited for surgical extractions and wisdom teeth. This allows Dr. Gorman to work efficiently while you rest in a deep sleep-like state.
The Path to Restoration: Planning for the Future
At a standard dental office, an extraction is often the end of the story. You are left with a gap and a piece of gauze.
At Saratoga Smiles, an extraction is the beginning of your restoration. As a Fee-for-Service practice focused on comprehensive health, we never remove a tooth without discussing how we will replace it (unless it is a wisdom tooth).
Bone Preservation (Socket Grafting) When a tooth is removed, the jawbone naturally begins to shrink (resorb). To prevent this, Dr. Gorman often performs socket preservation at the time of the extraction. By placing a small amount of bone grafting material into the empty socket, we preserve the height and width of your jawbone.
Why is this important?
- It maintains the natural contour of your face.
- It creates a solid foundation for a future Dental Implant or Bridge.
By planning your restoration before the extraction, we ensure a seamless transition from a damaged tooth to a brand-new smile.
